Welcome to the new video quiz pages.
This is the page to learn more about New Zealand culture by listening to Kiwis talk. Each Kiwi is passionate about something different. This video is about music. Bill is passionate about music and his video is below.

This month I will add lots more new video clips about Rugby, scuba diving, a holiday in Thailand, carving and sailing a waka so keep coming back!!

How to use the clips to improve your listening:

1. The clip will take a few minutes to download so read the questions. They start easy and get harder! Check your answers - Well how did I do? - after listening. Try the first time without looking at the transcipt !
(Transcript means the words that Bill says.)

2. If you are coming to New Zealand, you will need to get used to the Kiwi accent. If you are studying here, then listen to the way Bill says fillers like umm, arhh, etc and practise repeating them.
Look at the transcript again and look at WHERE Bill ...(pauses) to think about the best word and look for patterns in the text. This helps you with your speaking because you know WHERE to stop and make the sound noise 'um/ah' etc in a sentence and WHERE to pause in a conversation.

3. Don't look at the transcript and make notes. I hope to have documents soon showing key words, mindmaps etc!

4. Read the transcript and listen to the interview at the same time to increase your reading speed.

Yvonne Hynson: Can you tell me your plans for tonight? BH: My plans for tonight. Well, I'm going to have a ...have dinner. Then after dinner I've got a student who comes from 7 to 7:30 and as soon as he's gone I'm zooming off to a pub called the Dog's Bollix and I'm going to play a couple of songs there... ahh with some people I play with in a little bluegrass group with. There's Corralie, who plays fiddle, (violin) and her boyfriend Adam, who's a guitar player and singer and I play 5 string banjo and sing and so we're going to go along there, do some bluegrass songs... umm and probably leave not too late... (and come home.)
