Photo 1 -3: Christmas culture
Everywhere now you can see Christmas trees with decorations and lights, especially in the shops but also in people's homes.
Crackers are pulled at the special lunch or dinner for fun.
They make a small bang. If you have the big part after you pull it, then you wear the hat, read the joke and get the small gift inside.
Photo 3 is a typical small gift - flax kit bag with a mother of pearl shell decoration.
At Christmas, friends and family and have a special lunch or dinner, play games and give each other presents.
On fine days Auckland folks go to the beach and sit under the Pohutakawa trees - see photo 6.
Photo 4 : The Beach
There are still plenty of things to do at the beach, if the water is too cold for a swim!
On Christmas Day it is common for Kiwis to have a picnic there too.
Photo 5 : Camping
It is school holidays from mid-December and a holiday with a tent or caravan or at a bach at the beach are favourite ways to relax with the family.
Thanks for the photo Howard!
Photo 6: Pohutakawa flowers. This big New Zealand tree is usually near the beach and has lots of red flowers.
